Laser Eye Surgery Turkey
Our sensory organs provide us with the opportunity to perceive our environment and to establish a healthy interaction with it. One of the most important of these organs is the eyes. Eyes collect surrounding light with the help of dozens of special tissues that make up them and send them to the brain for analysis. Thus, the act of seeing occurs. However, the special tissues we mentioned may not be able to perform their functions ideally, sometimes due to genetic and sometimes developmental reasons.Light coming into the eye may not be refracted ideally due to structural problems in the eyeball or cornea. This can cause the individual to have blurry vision of their surroundings.
Blurred vision caused by refractive errors can now be treated permanently with laser operations without the need for glasses/contact lenses. In the rest of our article, we will answer frequently asked questions such as “How is laser eye surgery performed?”, “How long does laser eye surgery take?”, “To whom is laser eye surgery recommended?” and “Why is laser eye surgery performed?” You can call us to get detailed information about laser eye surgery in Turkey and make an appointment with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yasin Şakir Göker, one of the experts in the field of eye diseases.
What is Laser Eye Surgery?
Laser eye surgery is an operation that eliminates blurred vision caused by refractive errors without the need for glasses or contact lenses. This operation can be performed with different methods today. These methods include Smile Laser, No Touch Laser and Lasik surgery. The methods mentioned allow the corneal surface to be arranged with laser technology. In this way, the light coming to the eye can be directed correctly and the individual can have a clear vision without the need for devices such as glasses.
Why Is Laser Eye Surgery Performed?
Laser eye surgery is performed for reasons such as:
- Enabling the individual to see his/her surroundings clearly without the need for glasses or contact lenses.
- To eliminate the comfort problems experienced by the individual due to the use of glasses and contact lenses.
Laser eye surgery is performed within these two main purposes.
In Which Cases Is Laser Eye Surgery Performed?
Laser eye surgery is performed to correct problems known as refractive errors or refractive disorders. These refractive errors include hyperopia, astigmatism and myopia. The mentioned problems can be eliminated with laser eye surgery, which is performed quickly and painlessly. This operation can completely eliminate the need for glasses in many patients who are suitable for treatment.
Who Can Have Laser Eye Surgery?
There are two basic criteria for evaluating patient suitability in laser eye surgeries. The first of these is that the patient is over 18 years of age. The other is that the patient’s eye number has not changed in the last year. These two criteria are very important for the suitability of the patient for the operation. Another important criterion is the patient’s corneal thickness. Individuals with thin corneas may not be candidates for laser eye surgery techniques such as Lasik. However, people with thin corneas can get rid of their refractive errors with other eye laser surgery technique such as the No Touch Laser.
What are the advantages of Laser Eye Surgery?
The advantages of laser eye surgery include:
- It is a very fast application.
- It helps the patient to get rid of glasses and contact lenses.
- Improves the quality of life.
- Provides permanent clear vision to individuals who do not want to wear glasses for aesthetic reasons or who are afraid of the risks that may arise from contact lenses.
- It is done with great precision, with the help of advanced computers.
- The healing process is much faster.
- Suitable for topical (with eye drops) anesthesia.
- It is a safe operation
- It gives very successful results.
The advantages of laser eye surgery can be listed as follows.
How is Laser Eye Surgery Performed?
Before laser eye surgery, the patient’s eyes are anesthetized with eye drops. Then, if the surgery is performed with the Lasik technique, a flap is created in the upper layer of the cornea. Using laser beams, the cornea is intervened through this flap and the treatment is completed. In the No Touch Laser (Trans PRK) method, there is no need to create a flap, the epithelial tissue on the cornea is removed without physical contact with the eye and the cornea is intervened with laser beams. These two techniques are performed using Excimer laser technology.
In operations performed with the Smile laser instead of the Excimer laser, there is no need for applications such as flaps. In Smile laser treatment, which is the most modern eye laser technique used today, the lenticule created in the eye is safely removed and the treatment is completed successfully. However, Smile laser can only be used for myopia and astigmatism problems, other techniques are preferred for hyperopia.
What is the Recovery Process Like After Laser Eye Surgery?
Patients are discharged after a short rest after laser eye surgery.
They do not have to spend the night in the hospital. Although their vision may be blurry for a few days, they soon regain healthy, clear vision. During this process, patients need to use eye drops recommended by their doctors and protect their eyes against possible physical trauma.
